The changing tide

The changing tide

His
spirit had grown restless

He’d
left to set sail

And
before I realized

He
had sailed away

My
heart sank to the ocean floor

Suddenly
I’m drowning in a whirlpool of emotions

Maybe
we could have turned the tides

But
the undercurrent was to strong

He’d
decided to go with the flow

Being
docked made him feel tied up

When
distant foreign shores where waiting

Being
committed wasn’t included in his map

Like
the tide forever changing so had his love

I
searched for our initials left in the sand

The
sandcastles we built together

But
the crashing waves had washed them away

Ever
since my hearts surfed tidal waves

Maybe
the winds will set his sails back my way

Our
brief mid-summer fling ended yesterday

For
the sea had called him home
